At Thesys we know the challenges you face—we are educators ourselves. We have seen first-hand how education is changing and how students are changing. Today’s learners are “digital natives” who are savvy with technology and expect education to keep up.

Thesys English Learning Centre programs are effective because our methodologies are based on experience and the latest research. As a member of the Fairmont Education Group, we have put more than 60 years of “know-how” into building our research-based digital curriculum, which has been field tested in our schools and partner schools across the United States and Singapore. We believe that together we can make education even more relevant for this new generation.

Meet the Team

Brenda Rosas

Brenda Rosas

ESL Specialist and Primary Author of ELLoquence

As the ESL Specialist of Fairmont Education Group, Brenda believes that language learning empowers everyone. Beginning her journey at Fairmont in 2009 as an ESL teacher in 2009 at Fairmont Preparatory Academy, Brenda soon took on the role of ESL Specialist, where she authored and oversaw the writing of Gradify and ELLoquence. Serving as a Teacher Mentor to both domestic and internation schools, Brenda helps to build ESL programs and train teachers in ESL curriculum and instruction. Prior to Fairmont, she served as a founder and teacher in Cornerstone Academy’s ESL program. She specializes in teaching languages in multi-level classrooms.

Brenda has a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese and a Master’s degree in English TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from San Francisco State University. She has taught English in China, Taiwan, and Brazil. Brenda is also fluent in Chinese, Portuguese, Cantonese, and Spanish.

Joshua Tan

Executive Director Ananias Education

Joshua is the Executive Director of the Ananias Centre (a Before-After-School-Care service provider) and oversees 3 centres with over 300 students. He led and contributed to the growth and stability of the Centre operations, curriculum development, and holistic development of the children and teachers.

Joshua graduated with a Bachelor degree with Honours in Business Studies from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. In addition, Joshua obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2004. During the six years of service in a secondary school, Joshua initiated and led several student leadership and interest groups where he championed character development through leadership, sports and service. He personally led teachers and students on long overseas service-learning projects which culminated in trips to India, Cambodia and China.

Carolyn Lucia

Carolyn Lucia

Academic Dean

As Thesys’ lead academician, Carolyn Lucia advises program development as it relates to academic design, teacher professional development and student outcomes analysis. Carolyn joined Fairmont Education Group in 2011 as the Dean of Advanced Studies at Fairmont Preparatory Academy. Her extensive background in education encompasses a broad range of positions including teacher, Dean of Students, Student Services Coordinator, Assistant Principal, as well as Founder and Director of a charter school. She has a strong knowledge of developing and analyzing assessments for international and English Language Learning students. In addition, Ms. Lucia teaches university level courses for continuing teacher education. She was also honored to have been chosen as an ongoing participant in the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation MET study project for assessing effective teaching methods. Carolyn completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications at Chapman University and her Master of Science degree in Educational Administration at National University. Additionally, she holds several California credentials including Single Subject English, Multiple Subjects, and Administrative Services. Carolyn lives in Orange County, and she enjoys a good movie or book, walking at the beach, and tending to her three very demanding but lovable dogs.

Kelly Robinette

Kelly Robinette

Manager of Education

Kelly Robinette has been an educator for almost twenty years. She first began teaching in 1995 at Brea Olinda High School, where she taught honors American Literature and freshman English. She then moved to England and taught secondary English and humanities for three years, in both state and private schools. Upon returning to the US, she switched gears and began working in educational administration for Fairmont Private Schools in the Business Office. As the Manager of Education, her work here includes academic outcomes data analysis, Blackboard administration, online learning, curriculum development, teacher evaluation management, and teacher training. She has also served on several task forces and was the key designer of the 21st century Kindergarten classroom at the Historic Anaheim campus.

Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature, with an emphasis in British, German, and Greek literature and languages. She also has a master’s degree in Educational Administration, and holds both a single subject teaching credential in English, as well as an administrative services credential. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest honor society.

When not working on an educational project (which is rare!), Kelly enjoys spending time with her two grown children and dog, Hannah. She loves to travel, read, and work on her family tree, where she has traced her roots all the way back to her 10th great grandfather, who was born in Germany in 1644.

Susan Yeng Soh Ying

Executive Director Cherie Hearts Preschools

Susan is a passionate educator who has more than 18 years of experience in the Singapore’s education industry. She was a former teacher and Vice Head of the Mathematics Department in a secondary school. She had led teams of teachers in achieving remarkable academic results, as well as in designing purposeful student-centered character building programs.

Susan holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Monash University Australia, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from National Institute of Education, Singapore and a Degree in Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. She is also a certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner partnering with Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Network based in California, and a Gallup Strengths Trainer.

Pete Chavez Ed.D.

Director of Education Partnerships

Dr. Chavez earned his Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from California State University, Fresno and his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Argosy International University . He also obtained his Doctorate in 2010 from Alliant International University in the area of Management and Leadership. His dissertation focused on using two languages to teach content instead of one language. Dr. Chavez also has his Single Subject Credential in Spanish and a Cleared Administrative Credential.

After spending 8 years as teacher and designer of online curriculum at Clovis East High School, Dr. Chavez became Assistant Principal at Mt. Whitney High School, where he focused on student discipline and reclassifying 200 ELL students attending the school. He also served as a principal at North Monterey County Middle School, where he strove to improve student test scores by utilizing data and differentiating instruction.

Dr. Chavez has also facilitated online and traditional courses for the University of Phoenix for over 8 years, helping teachers across the world obtain or renew their credentials. In addition to teaching, Dr. Chavez has served on various dissertation committees for fellow administrators and teachers in California. Dr. Chavez recently created an IOS and Android app that allows administrators and teachers to scan student ID cards for tracking attendance, preformance, and more!

Kenneth Goh

Educator | Strength Coach | Company Director

Kenneth has been working as an educator and youth development consultant in California and Singapore for the last 25 years and is the chairperson and director of a chain of Before-After-School-Care student centers. With an enormous passion for life coaching to transform lives, Kenneth continues to devote his time and effort to life skills education. He is a certified Advanced Behavioural Analyst and Emotional Intelligence Practitioner, Certified Gallup Strengths Trainer, partnering with Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Network based in California.

Kenneth has a Masters Degree in Education Leadership & Organisational Change from Monash University Australia and a Masters Degree from ITSLA, USA. He is currently undertaking a doctoral research study on emotional intelligence with Trinity Western University, Canada.

Alan Rudi

General Manager Thesys International USA

A leader of award-winning management teams, Alan creatively guides development, defines strategy, and authors innovatuive solutions at Thesys. With over 20 years of experience in education business management and information services product marketing, Alan joined Fairmont Education Group in January 2009. Prior to launching Thesys in 2010, he developed and implemented an eLearning strategy for Fairmont Private Schools that included a core-out strategy focused on teacher training and technology application.

Passionate about value of technology in education, Alan previously developed new products and managed databases on 180 million consumers and 25 million businesses for use in the financial services industry. Spending time as a developer and teacher in tradational and online classrooms at Concordia University, Alan helped the university to achieve a 14% increase in annual growth. Alan holds a Master’s degree in Technology Management from Pepperdine University, as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Oregon State University.
