Primary One Preparatory Programme

ELLoquence helps your child discover and dive into a rich language environment where words are made alive through sensorial experiences, emotional engagement and real life application.

The Primary 1 Preparatory Programme aims to equip the Kindergarten children with

(1) phonetic reading and writing skills

(2) elementary critical questioning skills to comprehend texts

(3) elementary story writing skills to organize and express their ideas

(4) understanding of basic grammar rules

(5) exposure to variety of vocabulary used in different themes

Every child will require these skills to have a good headstart in Primary One.

ELLoquence® Writing Programme (For 7-9 Years Old)

In this programme, our class teachers take an active role in scaffolding learning and pace the program according to the needs of each student.

Every teacher customises an individual learning plan and works closely with parents to implement a school-home partnership which helps to close the learning gaps which are different for every student.

Our programmes place strong emphasis on writing and comprehension skills, while at the same time equipping every student with all the four essential language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Using both thematic and systemic approaches in each lesson, your child will:

(1) expand vocabulary and build strong retention processes for words;

(2) develop depth in understanding of grammar rules;

(3) acquire higher order thinking skills through a series of progressively challenging writing activities; and

(4) be capable of answering critical thinking questions through vigorous verbal and written comprehension exercises to develop understanding.

Eventually, students in this programme will be equipped with all the key language skills for placement into our ELLoquence® PSLE Advanced Programme and become English proficient for the PSLE examination one-year before taking the actual examination.

PSLE Advanced Programme (10 to 12 Years Old)

In this programme, our class teachers take an active role in scaffolding learning and pace the program according to the needs of each student.

Every teacher customises an individual learning plan and works closely with parents to implement a school-home partnership which helps to close the learning gaps which are different for every student.

Using both thematic and systemic approaches in each lesson, your child will:

(1) hold a stronger grasp of grammar rules and an expanded range of vocabulary;

(2) learn to think critically by analysing a wide genre of text types (example narrative and expository texts) and breaking down paragraphs and sentences to retrieve key information;

(3) focus on expanding and internalising creative thinking skills which are essential for writing compositions and attempting comprehension questions;

(5) be equipped with the skills to tackle higher level thinking questions through vigorous verbal and written comprehension exercises; and

(5) learn the best practices in writing and exposed to examination-like questions.

Eventually, students in this programme will be equipped with all the key language skills to become English proficient for the PSLE examination one-year before taking the actual examination.

 

Writing & Comprehension Skills (For Secondary Levels)

In this programme, students will focus on expanding and internalizing creative and critical thinking skills which are essential to composition writing and comprehension papers.

The programme aims to:

(1) enhance your child’s content knowledge and writing skills;

(2) expand your child’s vocabulary and build strong retention processes for words;

(3) develop your child’s creative thinking skills in elaborating storyboards and organise opinions;

(4) increase your child’s sensorial and emotional phrases to write with flair;

(5) expand your child’s ideas and knowledge using different resources (newspapers, books, blogs, videos, etc) and a variety of text types (narrative, expository, persuasive and descriptive);

(6) equip your child with the skills to tackle higher level thinking questions by analysing a wide genre of text and breaking down paragraphs and sentences to define key information;

(7) expose your child to the best practices in writing and exposed to examination-like questions.

In addition, students will learn to think critically through examining the elements of thought implicit in all reasoning, including:

  • identify purpose
  • raise questions
  • use information
  • utilise concepts
  • make inferences
  • make assumptions
  • generate implications
  • embody a point of view

Eventually, students in this programme will be equipped with all the key language skills to become English proficient for the GCE O Level examination one-year before taking the actual examination.

Creative Writing Programme (11 to 17 Years Old)

In the 21st Century, we continuously adapt to a rigorous and continuously changing environment. In this programme, students will grow their confidence in expressing thoughts and exercising persuasion skills through written words! Each lesson aims to enhance students’ thinking skills, content knowledge and writing proficiencies. Using different resources (newspapers, books, blogs, videos, etc) and a variety of text types (narrative, expository, persuasive and descriptive), students have many opportunities to explore, generate and develop new ideas, storyboards and opinions.
